Requiem: The Saturday Sun (preview)

2009 was a growing year for me. Some relationships ended, some friends moved far away, some collaborations went sour, and while I had signed my first major publishing deal and some amazing things were happening with my career, I wasn’t feeling my best in life. I needed a change. I decided it was time to get back to my roots and I quietly moved myself back to the NW without telling many of my friends in LA. It was hard, but something that had to be done… Being back in the NW has been such a release and I’ve been able to let go of a lot of dead weight. I’ve been collaborating with some old friends, meeting some new ones, and I’m starting to enjoy playing music live again. I have always felt like the NW is the place I belong.

I knew being back here would rekindle my creativity, but something else began stirring in me. I could tell it was music but it was different this time… I was hearing something undeniably beautiful inside me and I just had to get it out! So I called my friend Bryn Lynch (violinist) and we began collaborating on the most ambitious piece of work I’ve ever created, Requiem: The Saturday Sun. It’s an epic 20 minute piece with 6 movements that flow together as one.

If there’s one thing I learned about the struggles and triumphs of 2009, it’s that nothing else matters but love. I love my friends and family. I love where I came from. And I love creating. Requiem: The Saturday Sun is the most beautiful declaration of that love I’ve ever created and I’m excited to share this sneak preview of the first movement with you. I hope you enjoy!
